Exhausted, Still Fighting, August 2016

Hannah sugested she and I do a photoshoot together about mental illness as, with both of us having suffered for a number of years, it is something close to our hearts. Every day, we strive to do whatever we can to raise awareness, erode stigma, and explore mental illness and its effects. These photos aim to express some
of the things we struggle with daily as well as highlighting the very real possibility of recovery.

Hannah was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in May 2013, and also suffers from depression, anxiety and OCD. She spent a number of months as a day patient and inpatient at the Priory Hospital and missed two months of Year 10 and the majority of Year 11. I remember her messaging me on Facebook in panic just before we started Year 12 because it would be her first time at school full time in a year.

It definitely hasn’t been easy, and it still isn't easy, but over three years after her initial diagnosis, here she is, running her own businesses, completing expeditions in the Amazon and heading to Uni with a scholarship!Things get better. Don’t give up.

Featuring Hannah Coombs.

This was how Hannah explained an aspect of her OCD to me - her hands are clean, but they still feel dirty, so she has to keep washing.

Your body lets you do so much - look after it!
